The CAM building in Lisbon, closed in 2020, reopened to the public on September 20th after a remarkable renovation project by the Japanese architect KENGO KUMA & ASSOCIATES and a new landscape designed by the achitect Vladimir Djurovic.
At TRIA Portugal, we were honored to work with our client and general contractor HCI Construções on this project. Our responsibilities included supplying and installing the Fogofil glazed systems, and the fire-resistance doors Plano, RF and SD Series, known for their exceptional fire safety performance and attractive design.
The interior of CAM is filled with natural light, which was a thoughtful design choice. Our VENTRA smoke vents were expertly installed to let in this natural light every day, while also providing ventilation and smoke control. We also supplied our BACHSMOKE DA smoke curtains and fire stopping systems to enhance fire safety.
During our visit to the space, we were captivated by a strong sense of belonging and serenity. Kengo Kuma’s architectural style, which seamlessly blends natural materials and reinterprets traditional Japanese buildings into modern designs, is masterfully showcased throughout CAM. As we can see in the Engawa typology, a path protected by the eaves of the roof that serves as a connecting element between the exterior and interior of the building, a striking feature reminiscent of traditional Japanese houses.
