TRIA developed a set of solutions for firewall filling of expansion joints that ensure a class of fire resistance until EI 240, absorbing great movement amplitudes (compression until -90% and expansion until +50%) and that are suitable for joints with openings from10 to 560 mm, 10 to 840 mm with the movement.
These solutions provide an answer to the most demanding designers who know how joints can contribute to the increase and propagation of fire.
Buildings expansion joints are ideal sources of fire propagation, if the right precautions are not taken.
The non-existence or fault in its dimensioning can cause damages to the real estate patrimony. But in case of fire, the expansion joints constitute places of air inlet that boost fire and turn its propagation easier between the buildings blocks.
An expansion joint is an empty space between two parts/two blocks of a building or between two different constructive elements and aims at creating conditions so that both parts can move, one in relation to the other, without any effort transmission in between.
There is an urgent need to turn compatible the existence of expansion joints, able to permit the different blocks to move and absorb the natural or seismic multi direction movements with the necessity to fill them with Passive Fire Protection systems that won’t question their functionality and will ensure an effective fire resistant compartment.
